His Side
From my first vivid memory of Tryphena, she stood out. I wanted to get to know her, and thankfully, through mutual friends, I was given the opportunity to. Since then, I’ve always wanted to be near her and always looked forward to spending time with her. As friends growing up, we enjoyed our time together and had the occasional conversation via text. Once we were both back living in Manchester after university, our friendship grew as we spent more time together, mostly visiting churches. We began spending more time together, particularly going to the cinema. A couple of weeks went by, and we finally decided to get together. We called this period " just doing us”.
Her Side
It’s hard to say exactly when our story began, firstly because we met when we were too young to remember, and secondly because we’ve always been friends. If our teenage selves could see us now, they’d never believe where we are today.
Our story truly began when I moved back to Manchester. One Sabbath afternoon, I was visiting Nile’s church, sitting on my own, when he spotted me and came over to sit beside me. I thought 'that was nice of him,' but didn't think much more if it at the time.
After that day, we started spending more time together as “just friends”, visiting different churches, attending events, and enjoying each other’s company.
Over the next few months, we grew closer and closer, until one day we took a chance on us… and we’ve never looked back.
The Proposal
Exactly a year and 9 months after Nile asked Tryphena to be his girlfriend, and following months of planning, Nile asked Tryphena to marry him on a gorgeous beach in Spain, surrounded by some of their dearest friends.
The proposal is one of Tryphena’s favourite stories to tell - honestly, ask her anytime! She had absolutely no idea it was coming (which explains the slightly confused expression in many of the photos!). Between the surprise and the overwhelming excitement, May 20th 2025, will always remain one of her most cherished days. Tryphena's top 3 memories from the engagement:
1. Being too full from dinner to walk to the beach
2. Nearly sabotaging my own engagement by trying to change the trip itinerary
3. Telling the girls that afternoon, there was no way she was getting engaged that day
